It's been a year since Wanderer began her life in Pet's body and in some ways are very much the same as they were before but in others it is very different.
Life in the caves is no different to before, with regular raiding trips out and returning with plenty of supplies and souls too. They have added a few to their number but most bodies they can't save and due to the lack of space they tend to try and move most of these humans to other groups.
Meanwhile over in the Mountains of California Nate's humans are doing well especially with Burns helping them get supplies. Life is harder here but they keep up their spirits as best they can. Their community changes more than most with different humans coming and going, although this could be to do with the fact that they are the most active of all the rebel groups.
The Sea Caves is a much more peaceful environment, they rarely leave their hideout and when they do they tend to leave for several months at a time. Gail and her daughters lead a very secure life here but as they come into more contact with other humans their tight-knit community loosens.
Max's Village was an oddity, no soul ever realized that it was there, just like no human officials ever had either and so it became a great hiding place. This community is so much younger than the rest with the older being no more than 25, it's unsure why this is the case but it leads to a very emotion led society.
And as for the souls, they have no more idea about these groups than they ever did, well perhaps that isn't totally accurate, the Seekers haven't failed to notice that souls are going missing and it won't take long for them to start looking.
